ERC’s Regenerative Educational Community Food Gardens

At the beginning of 2023, we were thrilled to announce ERC’s Regenerative Educational Community Food Gardens project, with funding provided in part by the Government of Canada.

This project will literally grow access to healthy, local food for vulnerable community members while at the same time empowering and teaching how to seed local food security. Garden plots will be available for local Indigenous communities and community groups that provide social services to vulnerable community members. Here we will offer an inclusionary hands-on experience growing food while improving food security within our community.

It is estimated that 5000 kgs of vegetable produce and 10,000 kgs of tree fruit and nuts will be produced seasonally at ERC! Initial production is anticipated to begin in 2023.

The ERC Regenerative Educational Community Food Gardens have been designed specifically to connect our community members not only with their food system, but also with each other. Weekly education on-site during the growing season for participant community groups will provide opportunities for community members to gather, learn, create, and share food. The programming will connect our community to the land through collaboration with local Indigenous groups and as well as be a venue to showcase local talent through community events.
