Welcome to Elk Root Conservation

Feeding Body Mind & Spirit

Our not-for-profit mission is to demonstrate how feeding community and protecting the planet go hand-in hand. To alleviate food insecurity and inspire ecological stewardship by growing certified organic food for those in need in a ‘beyond’ organic regenerative way, lead innovative environmental conservation restoration initiatives, and offer inclusionary and empowering learning opportunities through research, innovation, online accessibility and hands-on education at Elk Root Conservation’s Educational Demonstration Farm.

Join us at Elk Root Conservation

ERC’s certified organic Educational Demonstration Farm is located in what has become known as Vallican, BC on the unceded traditional territory of the Sinixt Peoples. We also acknowledge the deep connection and significance of the land and waterways where ERC is located to the Syilx (Okanagan), the Ktunaxa and the Secwépemc (Shuswap) Peoples whose unceded traditional territories are also within what has come to be known as the Kootenay Region.

At Elk Root Conservation, we have developed a Regenerative Educational Community Food Garden, a one-of-a-kind demonstration apiary and pollinator gardens, an heirloom fruit & nut food forest orchard, and a BC native plant nursery & seed library to propagate local ecotype native plants and collect seed for habitat restoration and also to share ecological stewardship education and biodiverse ‘beyond’ organic agricultural practices with our youth, community, organic growers and producers province-wide.

We apply ‘outside-the-box’ approaches to support all members of our community be they winged, web-footed, finned, or human alike! We aspire to create a space at Elk Root Conservation and beyond where all members of our community are supported to grow.
